Pilates Classes

How can Pilates benefit you?

Pilates offers the ultimate mind and body workout. It focuses both on strengthening weak muscles and stretching tight areas. Osteopaths, chiropractors, physiotherapists and general practitioners recommend pilates as one of the safest forms of exercise today. It can be beneficial for just about everyone, regardless of age and fitness level.

Pilates promotes good posture and can change the way you look, feel and move. It can re-shape, re-balance and realign the body, making it longer, leaner and more supple. It is suitable for elite athletes and exercise novices alike and is beneficial to any age group.

  • Greater muscle strength and endurance
  • Improved physical appearance
  • Holistic well-being
  • Mobility and flexibility
  • Improved sleep and lifestyle
  • Fewer injuries and reduction of back pain
  • Improved pelvic floor function
  • Improved circulation
  • Increased co-ordination and concentration
  • Assists with relaxation and reduces stress levels
  • Improved lung function

Did you know that you can also book a one-to-one session with Zoe to use her Reformer?  The Reformer was invented by Pilates founder Joseph Pilates. Use of it offers all the benefits of Pilates including overall strength, flexibility, coordination and balance which in turn, lead to daily life improvements like better posture, graceful and efficient movement and for many, relief from pain associated with physical imbalances such as back pain.

The good news for the majority of us is that you don't need to be as lithe and flexible as Zoe is demonstrating here in the picture to use the machine, absolutely not!  It is suitable for all shapes and sizes and physical abilities. Great news indeed!

How does it work?  This bed-like frame has a flat platform on it, called the carriage, which rolls back and forth on wheels within the frame. The carriage is attached to one end of the reformer by a set of springs. The springs provide choices of differing levels of resistance as the carriage is pushed or pulled along the frame and can be adapted to suit the individual.

Zoe has over 16 years teaching experience working with elite athletes to rehabilitation clients and is passionate about helping people to improve their daily movement patterns by increasing or maintaining strength, flexibility, balance and posture.

Monday's - 1.30pm - 2.30pm

Wednesday's - 5.30pm-6.30pm

Zoe says about herself;

"Hi, I'm Zoe. As a youngster, I trained at the Victoria Wade School of Dance in Huddersfield and did countless exams and competitions. I then went on to train with Mary Kelly of Bradford and then to the Dorothy Stevens School of Ballet and Modern Dance, taking up a full-time place between the ages of 16 and 19. There I gained several qualifications including the Advanced Royal Academy of Dancing certificate. Dancing professionally in the UK, abroad and on cruise ships.

After having an operation to correct a bunion, I began focusing on Pilates and the benefits it has to offer. During my rehabilitation, I continued practising Pilates for myself while gaining qualifications to teach group exercise classes. I have since worked with a wide range of people, from athletes to rehabilitation clients from all age groups and abilities through my company Northern Pilates."
